The Assists Late Night Weekend is the foundation’s signature fundraising event and is held the first weekend of college basketball season. It is our opportunity to share the anticipation and responsibilities that go along with being an assistant coach on the Jayhawks staff as they embark on a new season. The weekend is chalked full of activity for ten couples to spend the college basketball tip-off weekend with Coach Self and the rest of the Jayhawk men’s basketball program as honorary assistant coaches.
The festivities typically begin Friday afternoon at Media Day with team pictures and a press conference at Allen Fieldhouse. Friday night activities typically include locker room pep talks, prime seating at KU Late Night and a post-game get together at the Jayhawker. Saturday generally starts early with the first practice of the season, seats in Coach Self’s suite at a KU football game and a private party at the Self’s home. Sunday activities wind down the weekend with a Sunday brunch and round of golf at the Lawrence Country Club and a private tour and brunch at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City.
